Thank you. Found it. Is Treach taking off this coming week or the Monday after Christmas? If this week, I think he should post any Comment--just one line--and allow the rest of us to post about whatever interests us.

I disagree on one point: Stopping them from broadcasting his and his family's location isn't suppressing "speech"; it is nowhere in the category of "Speech is Violence". That's the Left's standard. Ours is, stop violating Federal Law (and state law in VA!) by stalking Justices' homes. Stop claiming you need to use physical force to prevent speech. This is just a time out. More than the Bee got for its satire. Which Roth labeled as "dangerous".

You're both right, I think - Not suppressing, crosses a line, response to that stimulus feels appropriate to me, even if further review warrants reversing in some cases.

You children, man. That's so not cool.

"In other words, Obama, Bush, and Clinton (those are the ones I remember well enough to comment) all used the presidency as an opportunity to advance themselves and make money in the guise of "service." "

*touches nose with forefinger* Bingo. And Bush in particular came in pretty unpoor to begin with as well.

"And he was probably pissed that they put his kid in danger."

Oh, most certainly. Dude in the Hyundai's lucky that they did was publish his license plate. He's a moron and it could have been (might ending being?) worse than that.

"That would require actual integrity and self-awareness, the absence of which I think is required for working in the mainstream media."

And the ability to feel shame, also absent.

*rereads whole post again again* *nods* Yes. I'm pretty much, like, yeah. All of that. It just sounds better when you write it than it was in my head before. *exhale*

"Who the hell is Keith Olbermann?"

Truth is, back in ESPN's heyday, he and Dan Patrick on SportsCenter were fantastic - smart, absolutely hilarious, and you really got your sports story news.

But I can see how he got here from there.

BONUS TRIVIA: He used to date AZ Senior Senator Kyrsten Sinema. Now she's an Independent and he's apoplectic.

I have never cared much for Trump. Back in the 70s I adopted (from the British magazine Spy I think) the term short-fingered vulgarian for him. Never watched The Apprentice and never understood its appeal. However, from the time he cam down that escalator obviously intent on kicking holes in Establishment Government I was on his side for that.

I never voted for him, but I appreciate his work in that case.

What mistake do you think Musk is making Jim? I think most of those Journos will get their accounts reinstated after Twitter jail, but hopefully will have learned a lesson about doxx'ing the owner's kid. I think the stalker kid should have legal action taken against him and will. As a parent Musk seems reasonable to me.

This whole Bari Weiss project has worked out nicely. She started her news org called the Free Press on Substack.

She basically broke free when she was brought into the NYT for some experience and maturity for the young journalists who were woking up the joint. Well they revolted with Serial Doxxer Taylor Lorentz at the lead. Her resignation letter is epic:

A lawyer friend (and professor/colleague) tells me that the guy figuring out Musk's jet's whereabouts may well be violating the law. He didn't go into detail, but evidently the "gathering" of the private data by other means is just right out. I don't know if my friend is correct, but I do know he isn't just winging it.

I think the "mistake" is that "others" will conflate his FREE SPEECH UBER ALLES stance with "cancelling." I think that's the case he's making. But, I don't know, I'm just a duck who rides a bike.

I agree with your analysis Duck. I don't think it transgresses Musk's commitment to speech. Especially after the creepozoid who came after his kid.

I noticed the trend on Twitter now is to deny this incident even happened. "Where's the proof? Where's the arrest report?"

And I'm all "the left blatantly lying about the truth is pretty on brand."

No lie is too outrageous for the *correct* political end for some.

Expand full comment

I agree. It seems like a reasonable policy to not dox people regardless of their politics. We live in a time where it is very important to “hate” someone as part of the virtue signal. It’s unfortunate, but words (and lies) about them is part of free speech. But tracking them...... nah

Doxxing is part of the Left playbook, and has been for years. Ask Taylor Lorenz.

Trump's major announcement is probably the best proof I have seen that he is out of gas, politically speaking. And I predict he will probably run as a third party candidate.

Dude, nice. I like the your Nov Climate Change article. One of your pull quotes reminds me of this:

“If my theory of relativity is proven successful, Germany will claim me as a German and France will declare me a citizen of the world. Should my theory prove untrue, France will say that I am a German, and Germany will declare that I am a Jew.”

Popcorn? I make my own "from scratch," on the stove. Learned how to pop it until it's overful and pour without kernels flying everywhere. Then butter and salt of course. Unless instead you throw shredded Parmesan on it.

I remember my dad making it on the stove but then we got an electric popper - ooo faaaaancy - then once Charles Townes invented the microwave (not quite; work with me) I never looked back:

- Remove plastic

- 222 on the timer

* remove when pops start coming 3 secs apart

- throw butter you prepped while poppin in microwaver for remainder

Which tends to hurt the Rs the most. If Trump keeps is posse, it could draw off a lot of expected Team Elephant votes.

You are funny as H***! I've seen too many "Trump's done" headlines, but I think he's buried himself or is close to it. NFTs right after SBF's crypto collapse? What timing! And: How is this serious? I don't blame Trump for seeing a guy he didn't know in Fuentes, the media-created Brown White-Supremacist; I do blame him for meeting Kanye even after the latter was going to go Defcon 3 on the Jews; Trump took him out to the patio so he could be seen. "Look!" "A Celebrity!" "How great we're at Mar-a-Lago!" I know he boasts, but now the hyperbole becomes offensive: "[B]etter than Lincoln, better than Washington..." Sounds like today's High Schoolers who swan about thinking they're better than Thomas Jefferson: "Well, at least I didn't own slaves!"

You're Top Ten ideas made me laugh out loud.

You will never convince me that Trump was anything other than a fantastic president. You will never convince me that 202 was any other than rigged from top to bottom. and you will never, EVER convince me that "Wonderful Christmastime" is anything other than brain-melting drek. But that was just sad.

"Don't you think he looks tired?" LOL! And I haven't watched the series since Pertwee.

Are we 100% certain this isn't some AI deep fake parody?

Can this be anything other than self-sabotage? Undermining his own candidacy, while running interference for others? Trump is many things, many of them bad, but he's not stupid. He knows the forces arrayed against him; he saw them in operation in 2020. He knows his chances of a comeback are negligible. He knows the rising stars in the GOP are starting to take some flak. But he also knows: the media can't quit him. When he does stupid shit, all the news is about him. This feeds his ego, which he loves. It also takes some heat off of DeSantis and Noemi and Cotton. I'd be willing to bet Trump's "feud" with DeSantis is just for show: attack Ron, and watch the media -- who would rather die than agree with DJT on anything -- back off. Not for nothing is the man in the wrestling hall of fame.

I'm willing to extend the benefit of the doubt. He's been honest and frank so far and, with some time rethink it, or discuss with others, he might modify this one a bit. Or maybe not. I mean, he's the freakin' boss. You don't like it, keep your $8.

But, as far as FAFOing goes, if permanently banned from Twitter for freaking out a parent is the extent of the FOing, just take the L and breathe a sigh of relief.
