It’s Friday! And do you know what that means?
Seriously, do you know? I don’t. The days all just sort of blend together at this point. I’ve been going full-sprint since I “went paid” with this newsletter a month ago, so I’m a little tired. But it’s a good kind of tired!
Yesterday was another subscribers-only post, so if you haven’t subscribed yet, you’re missing out. Just to get that out of the way.
Anyhow, I hope you’re hanging in there, dear reader. I’m feeling optimistic about things for the first time in a long while, and I appreciate the fact that you’re reading this right now. My whole life, I’ve been making it up as I go along, so it means a lot to have some company.
Awwwww! No hugs, though, please. I’m vaccinated, but I’m still a little nervous.
Okay, let’s see what those idiots in Washington are doing now…
As you listen to the following horse$#!+, try to imagine the furor it would’ve generated if it came from Kayleigh McEnany or anyone else in the Trump administration.
Why does the White House get to decide what you can and can’t say online? How did they become the arbiters of what is and isn’t “misinformation”? Would Democrats have been okay with the Trump administration announcing they were actively bouncing people from Facebook?
Less than 18 months ago, it was considered “misinformation” to speculate that COVID-19 is contagious. For a while, it was “misinformation” to tell people to wear masks. Then, suddenly, it was “misinformation” to tell people not to wear masks.
If the experts can’t get the information right in the first place, I don’t trust them to know what constitutes “misinformation.” They’ve been very publicly wrong about a lot of stuff ever since this pandemic started, and I don’t give them the benefit of the doubt anymore.
And now the government is publicly announcing efforts to squash any dissent. Once again, the people who can’t shut up about “fascism” are the ones using fascist tactics.
I’m not an anti-vaxxer. I’m vaccinated, and in the unlikely event that you want my advice, you should get vaccinated too.
And, also, in addition to that, I believe in free speech. If you don’t want to get vaccinated, you should be able to say so. I’ll tell you that you’re making a mistake, or more likely I’ll just ignore you, but I won’t stand with anybody who tries to silence you. That’s un-American.
In this country, you have the right to be wrong.
I just got suspended from Twitter for a week because I made a fat joke about Busta Rhymes, after he went on an anti-mask rant and complained about not being able to eat while wearing one. I wasn’t agreeing or disagreeing with him; I just joked about how he obviously doesn’t need to worry about going hungry. The powers that be saw that as a threat, so I was silenced.1
That’s what we’re dealing with. Power doesn’t need a reason to exert itself. That’s why it’s called power.
Today it’s COVID-19 vaccines we’re not supposed to joke about or spread “misinformation” about. What will it be tomorrow?
At least Fauci is still cuddly. This whole thing has been great for him. He hopes the ride never ends.
Once again, the 0.6% of the population who identify as transgender are getting their way. Their lives just aren’t complete until they have a “pregnant man” emoji, so a “pregnant man” emoji they shall have.
Let’s take a closer look at that:
That’s either a trans person carrying a baby or a dude who really regrets an evening of nachos and beer.
Look, I’m sorry, but if you’re gestating a fetus, you’re not a man. You can take hormones and grow facial hair and change your name and yell at anybody who “misgenders” you, but it doesn’t change your biology. And a man taking hormones and growing his hair long and putting on makeup doesn’t make him a woman. You can’t repeal 180 million years of evolution with an emoji.
That’s not hate speech. It’s just science.
But here’s another example of why facts and reason are now secondary to the agenda of trans activists. As subscribers know, yesterday I wrote about the two (2) Amazon employees who quit the company because it sells a book they don’t like. The book is Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters by Abigail Shrier. Trans activists see the book as a threat, because it argues that gender isn’t just a whim and it’s a bad idea to purposely deform a child for life.
Also yesterday, the American Booksellers Association tweeted out something crazy about that book:
The mere existence of a book that goes against trans dogma is now a “violent incident.”
This sort of rhetoric isn’t an accident. It’s a purposeful lie. Anything a trans person doesn’t like is “violence,” because that makes them victims and victimhood is currency.
Whereas actual violence is now being recast as:
Being reminded about the existence of a book that says boys and girls are not biologically interchangeable: VIOLENCE
Getting attacked by a literal shark: NOT VIOLENCE
This is yet another area where you can get banned from social media for dissenting against the propaganda you’re expected to parrot. It’s a secular religion, and it’s enforced with the same zeal. “Thou shalt not misgender.”
You can kick me off every platform ever invented, including this one, but I will not say something I know to be a lie. Men are not women, women are not men, and the fascists who keep telling me so are not anti-fascists.
Why hasn’t Nikole Hannah-Jones appeared in the pages of the New York Times, her ostensible employer, for over a year? Andrew Stiles at the Washington Free Beacon investigates.
AOC has finally weighed in on Cuba. And guess whose fault it is, mostly?
“Yeah, Cuba is pretty bad, but ya know who’s really bad?” I knew she could do it.
Those Texas Dems are at it again…
Can’t you see the sacrifices they’re making? They flew to DC on private jets to avoid losing a vote in Texas, and now they’ve been reduced to hanging up their wet laundry in their hotel rooms and tweeting pics of it for internet clout.
Sure, they’re basking in the adulation of their fellow Democrats in the press, but will that be enough to help them survive this ordeal?
Secrecy? They’re tweeting out pics of their own underwear. More like Victoria’s Secrecy.
Enjoy the ride, geniuses. It’s a short one. And once your brief moment of usefulness is over, your new friends won’t even remember your names.
James Gunn was just interviewed by the NYT, and they asked him about getting fired and then rehired by Marvel in 2018 for his bad tweets from a decade previous. But the NYT didn’t bring up what he said about cancel culture a few months before that:
Gunn has yet to explain how he reconciles that opinion with what happened to him. Does he still feel the same way about freedom of speech? Why did he get his old job back but Roseanne didn’t? What’s the standard? Is there a standard?
Well, he’s a good writer and director, and The Suicide Squad looks like it might be okay. Consider me burned out on superhero movies, though, or in this case a superhero-adjacent movie. I never thought I’d get sick of competently made feature films about people in tights punching each other, but I’m becoming numb to it all. Maybe I’m finally growing up? Nah, that can’t be it.
Once again, I’m imploring you to watch Mr Inbetween on Hulu. It’s a half-hour dramedy about a small-time Australian hitman who’s actually a pretty pleasant fella when he’s not doing awful things to people for money. He’s not a good guy, but he’d be a good guy to have a few beers with. The series wrapped up this week, and it really went out on a high note.
After watching the final episode several times, I think the last 5 minutes are the best thing the show has ever done. I don’t want to spoil it, but it’s absolutely masterful. The writing, the acting, the pacing, the music selection… It’s just a perfect ending. I got more of an emotional jolt from that last shot, that final moment, than anything else I’ve seen in any movie or TV show in a long time. It probably won’t mean as much if that’s the only episode you ever watch, but for longtime fans who are familiar with the tone and rhythms of the show, who’ve come to understand and empathize with this complex character over the last three years, it’s fantastic. That’s how you end a TV series.
It definitely left more of an impression than the finale of Loki, which has at least 100 times the budget of something like Mr Inbetween. You don’t need a ton of money when the writer/star and the director are so perfectly in sync.
Watch the first episode. If that doesn’t grab you, I don’t know what do to with you. If it does, then I don’t need to tell you to watch every episode because you won’t be able to stop yourself. They’re all that good.
Now I think I’m gonna rewatch the whole thing from the beginning…
Thanks for reading. Here’s another subscribe button, in case you missed the first one. Please share this newsletter with everyone you’ve ever met, and then leave a comment to brag about it. And then get outta here, it’s Friday!
Before that, I was suspended from Twitter for posting a pic of Hunter Biden from his abandoned laptop. Another bit of “misinformation” that turned out to be actual information.
Clearly somebody doesn't know how to pack if they are already washing their delicates in the hotel sink after a couple of days. How long did they think they would be gone? What total bozos.
Why do people who desperately want to be men want to do the one thing that most embodies womanhood?
That's right up there with: why do vegans want to eat foods that mimic animal flesh?
