So, add Lake Oswego. Boom--fixed.

But don't let them see downtown Portland, or they'll hijack the next Greyhound to Provo.

Apparently it was more like 300 Guardsmen. The 125 is the Unit. And the 48 "migrants" works out to <0.25% of the year-round population. No room in *that* Inn, it appears. Probably few if any Evangelical or Pentecostal Christians live there, either. You know, the kind that are into deeds more than ritual? (I say that last because many decades I had some serious problems, and I well remember what sort of person stood by me and helped and what sort of person forgot they had ever met me.)

The worst thing you can ask of a leftist is to have them live their values.

SNL has an openly non-binary cast member now? Well, the thing is that show has been on so long it's getting very hard to have any sort of "first" that is newsworthy. Fact is, they need a few "lasts," like "last season" and " last christmas special" and especially "last episode." Because it's a running joke that SNL hasn't been funny since anyone can remember. They need to shove the carcass of this show into the network dumpster. You know that, I know that... Everyone knows that. But the fact of the matter is what is NBC gonna replace it with?

The whole idea of "appointment TV" on network television, let alone on a Saturday Night, is an anachronism of a bygone era where TV's were the size of trucks, and there were only three options. We ain't going back to that time where we gather rough the water cooler and say "didja see SNL this week!" It's over, NBC.

I used to love Quantum Leap because it was a combination of ridiculous concept and science fiction, and they pulled it off just right. I'll check the show out if Jim says it's good. But I won't be there on day one. I got shit to do, bikes to ride. The Pro Cycling World Championships are in Australia, and they start this week. This is the only "rainbow" on a piece of clothing that I care about.

(See, the World Champion gets to wear a rainbow jersey the next year. A white jersey with Blue, Red, Black, Yellow, Green bands. And from that point on, they have the honor of wearing the rainbows as piping on their jersey. Then, one day, all rainbows were hijacked and they became a political symbol. But I know the truth and the real value of wearing THE Rainbow Jersey)

Virtue signaling is easy when you have no skin in the game.

Let's not let the media flacks forget Biden was secretly flying illegal immigrants to Florida earlier this year. But that was somehow okay ...

A "non-binary" (whatever that is) cast member on SNL isn't new. Have they forgotten about Pat?

JULIA Sweeny could milk the cringe laughs out of the 'Pat' character. I wonder if it would be wrong to make that non-binary (I've already forgotten [pronoun]'s name) the butt of those jokes.

The only problem I have with this whole MV thing is whether or not it actually makes some productive headway on the issue or it's just pointless onanism that feels good and accomplishes nothing. Maybe if plane after plane hits MV with 150+ immigrants a day for the next 6 months, that would just be a small sampling of what border communities face daily, but to what end? The rich libs just keep packing them off somewhere else after making a big fuss, and the border is still open. That's just my whole concern with stuff like this, is all. If I knew that it would equate to some actual change, then I'd be for it.

Regarding "Quantum Leap"... the original was nostalgia bait for boomers, this one seems like the same thing for Millennials - but, what are we talking about here? Other than the cringey 9/11 episode which will definitely be the season finale for the first season, what is there to show? Watching Ninja turtles and playing mario on an NES? Seeing a Nirvana concert? Watching Bill Clinton lie on TV about what the word "is" means in regards to sex? Going playing Call of Duty 1 before being deployed to Fallujah? Not exactly world changing stuff... no moon landings or civil rights movements there (unless you count gay rights which was supported by everyone from hollywood to academia and beyond and was never the 'always in danger' way the 60's civil rights movements were). It just seems like it's going to dip into a really shallow pool of content there.

I really liked the original and am sorry to say I don't have high hopes.

Donald Bellisario has created some really good TV: In addition to Quantum Leap he also created (and maybe a son or relative in some) Magnum PI, JAG, and the entire NCIS Pantheon. Note the Navy figures prominently in all. He served in the Marines so he knew some stuff.

QL was went off the air before all the character development of Sam Beckett could be fleshed out but backstories for Thomas Magnum, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, Dwayne Pride (also played by Bakula) are pretty well-woven into the fabric of their respective series and made them really relatable, I think.

I remember I gave up on NBC’s Timeless, a time-travel show (2018 or so) when they had a JFK episode and in passing noted that he was “one of the greatest” presidents. I suspect that anything made now will suffer from the same kind of stupid leftism.

Re: SNL - I don't suppose they could be funny instead?

Nah, too hard. They'll have to continue virtue-signaling.

Expand full comment

Humor requires a target almost always. Too much of what is funny overlaps with things that hurt the sensibilities of virtue signalers so they have to leave it out.

There's not much room left for funny.

My stars! The NATIONAL GUARD is being called in for 50 illegal aliens?! And they're already being...what's the word...deported?! The hypocrisy is mind-boggling. Evidently Gavin Newsome wants the Feds to consider "Kidnapping" charges against DeSantis. This while Joe Biden runs the greatest human smuggling operation in US history. "We're in a housing crisis on this island." Reeeally? I love it. Pi Guy had a point about voting for the same colored jersey, and I dislike the idea as it's what may Dems do, pull the same lever no matter what, but we're reaching the point where Republicans (yes, including Doc Oz) needs to win. None of the Dem policies are working. And we'll only get more of them.

Maybe there is a good, progressive reason for bussing those undocumented people off of your wealthy enclave. I can think of a few, but they all betray systemic racism. I think that if you don't open your communities, unquestioningly, to strangers we have to assume a big scoop of racist intent, topped with a ladleful of white privilege. (You, too, Barak.)

If you own property on Martha's Vineyard, you are guilty of racism. Shut up with your justifications and blame-shifting, Guilty, guilty, guilty!

Now prove the unprovable negative, you racists.

I wanted to keep my comments on the new QL to a succinct, "Ohhh Boy!" but I can't. I really, REALLY hope that the NQL sticks to slice of life America rather than "Big Events", and I will happily give it a go but I absolutely dread the virtue signaling that is about to commence. As always Scott Bakula is a class act.

Would have been brilliant to have Sam Beckett taking the job Al had in the original series - having come back from his last leap, he now has to mentor the new guy through his experience. All the while the new guy is asking, "How did you get back?" Sam is all, "you have to discover it for yourself," until finally he admits, "I don't know, all right? I just made a last leap and I was back. And everyone thought they worked out all the bugs in the system, and you volunteered, and it happened all over again!"
