Love Snow Crash but always worry that like anything good they'll ruin it. My favorite Stephenson has got to be Anathem. I love the audio version of the book and the math music
Sorry, that sci-fi show was made by the same idiots that took a giant, steaming turd and called it "Westworld." But, I'm sure The Peripheral won't completely crap the bed after season one...
Man, that "Dark Brandon" tweet was, uhhh... painful. Is that the best they can do?
Joe is holding the microphone so that his minders can turn it off if he starts to freestyle about Granpa being an All-American or how Hunter is so damn smart or how he just filled up his depends...
You might have said it earlier, or someone else here, but... thoughts and prayers for the poor translator who has to real-time sign this mess into ESL.
I know I wasn't alone in predicting disaster for this meetup but it really couldn't have gone worse for Fetterman. Between "you're going to be a great Lady in the Senate" and all the pics of Mrs. Lurch, everything pointed away from him. Maybe they thought it would just be a distraction but it ended up being the whole point: He is not fit to server in the Senate.
PS: "No sir, we are a human man, not three raccoons in a trench coat" is still making me chuckle out loud (saw it last night; our host is really great on Twitter)
Don't wanna be a killjoy, but it could have gone worse (better?). Fetterman could have spoken and Joe could have responded to him. I think that would have been hilarious.
And most of the pictures I've seen that has Fetterman in them have him looking pretty drugged up. js
Thanks to you, I have in the last six months viewed more trailers for sci-fi shows that I have absolutely no desire to ever watch than I had viewed in my entire life up to that point. We are all so much richer for it. Have a good weekend -- Midwest is supposed to get some Indian Summer weather (or, as it is now known, IPCA: Indigenous People's Climate Anomaly).
Apropos to nothing, local radio personality Kim Klacik (yes, that Kim Klacik; look her up - she should be working for us!) just said this about Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott:
-- "I'd have more faith in the Mayor of Paw Patrol."
When it comes to understanding Biden we really need to remember that in his own mind he really is as wonderful as he claims to be. He's been delusional like that for as long as he's been in the public eye. (And I really would like to see the results of an honest IQ test [from any point in his life] that tests his claim about he incredibly high IQ. Cause I'm big on claims being backed up by data.)
I've given up on seeing a movie or TV version of Neuromancer, never mind the rest of the Sprawl trilogy, unless the Japanese studio that made Ghost in the Shell decides to do an anime version.
I'm a big William Gibson fan. When he launched The Peripheral, I went to the first USA date on his book tour, the first day the book was available, and listened to him explain what it was about. Then I started the book and read 80 pages before I figured out what was going on, and went back to read from the beginning. It's a great book and a great story, and I hope this TV adaptation doesn't ruin it.
"Gisele Fetterman and Jill Biden need to start a club for women who abuse their addled husbands by pushing them into jobs they can't possibly do."
*sketches out a few "I'm with Edith" t-shirt ideas*
No.
"Five is right out."
Re: The Peripheral
Is this where the idea for "Strange Days" came from? I liked that quite a bit and thought it didn't get the attention it deserved.
But I _loved_ Neuromancer_ when I read it decades ago.
Wow. Another one I'd not heard of.
I'm going to have to do some reading to catch up a bit. This looks really cool!
If you haven't read Neal Stephenson, boy, do you have a treat coming. Big, long discursive novels, where even the random side notes are fascinating.

Neuromancer is where it all started. The Peripheral was only about 10 years ago.
I'd not even heard of it but have lost some of my zeal for SciFi that I once had. I might see what The Kindler says about this book.
Neuromancer was and is a terrific book where somehow you pick up the new language/slang.

That's a BINGO!
My response exactly!
You might have said it earlier, or someone else here, but... thoughts and prayers for the poor translator who has to real-time sign this mess into ESL.
Not me but I almost said something about that, too!
I might even pay to watch a Sign Language Interpreter translate a conversation between the two of them.
"Biden's speech was Fettermanesque."
Poetic
Well I just re-upped for another tour of duty with Treacher. Looking forward to it.

Yeah, I think they kiboshed any chance of that.
"Just stand here in your 3-Raccoon Suit and look, uh... pretty."
Fetterman won't speak at a Fetterman rally. What?!!!

For those who don't want to click on the link, the dialogue is between Oscar and Murray the Cop in the movie The Odd Couple:
"Who wants food?"
"Whatta ya got?"
"I got brown sandwiches and green sandwiches. Which do you want?"
"What's the green?"
"It's either very new cheese or very old meat."
"I'll take the brown."
And that, fans, is the state of play in PA. Fetterman is the green sandwich. I'd take the brown.
Green (D) vs Brown (R). Brilliant!
"I'm a cop, you know - I can arrest the whole lousy game!" It's a good movie.

I have to admit, I'm getting sucked into caring about media that I haven't cared about in some time.

I just thought it was funny and worth sharing.

He always has. This isn't some late-in-life dementia taking hold. He's really thought this all of his public life.

Interesting twist on time travel, if I'm understanding it correctly. Which I might not be!
I understood perfectly what Biden said to the reporter. He said that 16 candidates have already had him appear with them, and maybe 20 more will.
Out of 270 Democrats in Congress and a couple of dozen Democratic governors.
Joe might - MIGHT - break the 10% mark for Democrat candidates not terrified to be on stage with him (or be mentioned in the same breath).
