There are a lot of things I don’t understand about the Trump phenomenon, but one fact is undeniable: He’s funny.
I’m not saying you have to like him. I’m definitely not telling you to vote for him. But he’s a funny guy, and every once in a while it’s okay to relax and get over yourself.
His latest campaign stunt is a perfect example.
In the three(!) months since Kamala Harris has been campaigning for president because the guy we’ve got now is older than credit cards, she has claimed she worked at McDonald’s in college. As she puts it, she “did the fries.”
Is that true? Nobody has been able to prove it, and McDonald’s has no record of it. She stopped making that claim when actual journalists started asking her about it, so we may never know.
Is it a big lie? No. I don’t particularly care which fast-food joints have employed which politicians. But it’s a weird thing to lie about.1
“I wasn’t gonna vote for Kamala till I found out she used to work at Mickey D’s,” said absolutely nobody.
So the Trump campaign has now seized and pounced and so forth. They’re using that story as a launching pad.
And it’s hilarious.
