I have to disagree with you about Mel Brooks getting back into writing and producing comedy. When Blazing Saddles came out I wrote a review for my college newspaper and said, "Watching a Mel Brooks movie is like standing in front of a firing squad. Not everything hits home, but it doesn't matter."
...anyway, you got the Papal infallibility thing wrong. He's only infallible when he speaks ex cathedra (which popes do very rarely for obvious reasons) on matters of faith and morals, which he didn't do here. Don't beat yourself up about it, it's a common mistake even among Catholics.

With all due respect I agree on the Good Samaritan. A good Samaritan does not protest. He steps in to save the victim. Didn't see that anywhere!
