"The power grid will fail."

^THIS. I'm hopeful that the cultural collapse in Sri Lanka and pending agricultural crisis in Holland or the almost-sure-thing energy disaster throughout the EU is enough for us to at least reach

And Germany has just doubled (tripled? quintupled?) down on No Nuc for Energy. I can't figure out what they're counting on. As if somehow reality won't be real.

I recall that address and the looks on the faces of the German delegation.

It seems so plainly obvious that it's failing and they just can't back off from the position.

I saw a still shot of that She-Hulk twerking scene captioned with "Tony Stark died for this," and I think they were both serious and offended.

Has.... has this person seen any of the films with Ironman in them that's not End Game? I can hear the Doc Strange/Tony Stark discussion in my head right now:

"So there's a possible future with a female hulk, but she's hot, an attorney, and she's twerking in the post credits scene in her law office?"

"Yes."

"And in how many futures does this happen?"

"Just one; the one you die in."

"I've had a good run."

Great newsletter. California is what happens when the technology isn't up to the policy/dream. It reminds me of phasing out incandescent light bulbs: we could all have been stuck with CFLs instead of the environmentally friendlier LEDs. Mandating EVs and then telling people they can't CHARGE them, is insane. 75,000 without power?!

Biden's wretched Blood-red speech has to be among the worst ever given, demonising (at least) 74 million voters and their families. Of course he also has to go full Swallwell and threaten citizens with F-15s; it's taunting, just like when his goons raided Mar-a-Lago and he then went on vacation to a $20 million manse. With Hunter.

Oh, don't call them "vaccines". Call the new "boosters" the jab, like the British do. They are amelioratives, like the flu shots. You can still get it, transmit it, but hopefully, not get decked by the illness.

As for "diverse" casting, just realize it goes one way; tribal Zimbabwe (Ndebele and Shona) needn't be "multicultural"; Sweden does. In the movies, Wakanda is populated with black folk. (Well, except for Sebastian Stan.) (However, in Love and Thunder there must be black Asgardians. At least Jane Foster didn't go full Mary Sue.) So there is no need to gender- and race-swap everything else. Except that it's mandated: see the Oscars for example. I agree with Stan Lee: Make up your own heroes. Tolkien was brilliant. Amazon is trashing his work.

From American Thinker:

"Fans are not happy. They are also unable to express their discontent at Amazon, or its subsidiary, IMDB, because Amazon has suspended reviews of Rings of Power, and IMDB is deleting any reviews that rate the show as less than six.

The true audience reactions can be seen on websites over which Amazon has no control. Rotten Tomatoes shows the audience rating at 39%, and Metacritic assigns the show a rating of 2.5 out of 10. It would appear that Amazon's attempt at silencing viewers is backfiring, and the audience is not happy with a show set in Middle Earth that retcons what Tolkien created." [It says a LOT that Amazon won't let critical reviews be posted.]

Every time I try to feel bad for California, I just can't, because they chose this. The only Californians I feel bad for are the ones that actually stayed behind to fight for a different way, but in the end, for every voter that flees is one less that could have made a difference and as far as Democrat "self-selecting" enticements go, California has the ultimate enticement for people that could live better elsewhere to do so.

"Does Gavin Newsom think Doc Brown is gonna find a convenient lightning bolt?"

"I'm sure that in 1985, plutonium is available in every corner drugstore, but in 1955, it's a little hard to come by."

I think there's going to be some fissile material from Ukraine available on the cheap any minute now.

Yeah, but where are the gonna use those materials? There are only five nuclear plants an CA right now and four of them are shut down. Diablo Canyon has one foot in the (decommissioning) grave and the other on a squished avocado.

As awful as Jerry Brown was as a governor, he had three strong virtues:

1) He wasn't as quick to tear down the critical California infrastructure that his father (Pat Brown) built.

2) He dated Linda Ronstadt. (Woohoo!)

3) He didn't cover up his shiny head with a wig.

It generally pays to remember that (especially) California politicians don't want the serf, er ordinary citizens, having access to more than the minimum of power/energy necessary to get them to their job and back. And that amount can be reduced by forcing them to live packed like sardines in huge apartment buildings and making them walk or take lengthy rides, again packed like sardines. on "public transportation".

That way the elites can have plenty for themseves.

Here on the right coast, our state is doing something similar in terms of ending the sales of gas-powered cars, with similar horror stories about the lack of a good electrical grid (still mainly powered by fossil fuels, but nobody wants to talk about that). On any given summer day, we can lose power because a squirrel farts near a transformer. In all likelihood, the states that are virtue signaling about these bans will realize that they don't have solutions to prevent rolling blackouts and other sorts of shutdowns, but it doesn't really matter to the politicicans anyway (they probably all have portable generators or access their power through a secret "other" network).

"... what powers those portable generators?"

The same thing, as you note, that fuels about 60% of the current electrical grid.

Gavin Newsom (who is Nancy Pelosi's nephew, and somehow thinks he has a shot at being the president. Spoiler Alert: smug, arrogant, and connected were never big indicators for national electoral success) said the following: "No other state [...] is doing more in the green energy space, changing the way we produce and consume energy."

Ummm... No. I mean, you are correct that you are changing the way people consume energy, but you ain't exactly producing much energy, not nearly enough for even now. That's the problem. And there will certainly be less energy being produced by the time this "mandate" goes thru. The only thing that can possibly save CA is making new nuclear reactors, and upgrading the ones they have. But will they? No, they won't.

And, look, there are just not enough EV's for even California to fill this artificial, state-mandated "demand" for Electric Vehicles. When I heard that Pretty Boy Gavin said no new gas cars are going to be sold in CA after XX date, my first thought was how happy car dealers in NV are going to be. IF I was a car dealer in NV, I would make sure I had a massive lot right there in the desert on the border with CA.

It's like he's just stuck in politician mode only he's even less competent than when he was in his first 45 years in Big Fed Gov.

It's just Stimulus-Talking Point 24/7 but it just isn't connecting anymore. He's just spitting them out.

Really, he is devolving from mean-spirited crook to non-Player Character as we watch. If he can be wheeled into the next campaign's debates, I expect this exchange:

"Welcome to Jumangi, bold adventurer!"

The type of people who take a beloved franchise and create a “woke” reboot are usually top stupid to make a decent show. Terrible writing becomes par for the course.

Which is why people are so angry. Nerdy shows like LOTR and Star Trek operate under strict internal rules of logic. Nerds want that. Woke culture is inherently illogical. Why can’t they just leave the poor nerds alone? Do they have to ruin every fandom?

And yes, She-Hulk is stupid. I like stupid entertainment as much as the next person, but I miss the days when everything wasn’t stupid.

Many years ago, at the start of my last 20 years of work, one of the IT "nerds" was asked by a colleague why he prioritized my calls. His response basically broke down to 1) he knows enough and has done enough for me to be sure it's a real problem and he didn't just kick the plug out of the wall, 2) he treats me like a valuable human being.

A propos to that, his boss, a female supernerd once told me that she hated seeing my name come up on a service call because 1) that meant it was a serious problem call, and 2) her nerds tended to fight over who got to respond to it "because his problems are always interesting, and he treats them right."

Moral: those who mistreat the nerds may well live to regret it.
