I've only seen one Halloween movie from start to finish - and it was Halloween III - Season of the witch. It doesn't have the body count but, IMHO, the plot is better. Bill Gates type guy seeks control of all the children via Halloween mask he makes. Its from the early eighties so no slick CGI or top notch special Effects. But entertaining around mid-October every year. :-)

Not a slasher film watcher, my Halloween (halloween, halloween!) movie preference is for a good ghost story (lady in white is the gold standard to me)
The British anthology horror film Dead of Night (1945) is another low-key classic!
Halloween 3 had a great short sex scene which was eye popping for me at 14 in 1983!
