RE: Ernie Kovacs. The man invented much of what made TV so different from stage and screen.
Television in the 1950 had a much less frenetic rhythm than the quick cut, get to the punchline NOW pacing of today. The length of this bit, the cuts to a guy in a rubber gorilla mask for a response that CAN'T come. It builds and builds funnier and funnier.
Check out "Argument to Beethoven's 5th" with Sid Caesar and Nanette Fabray. Another classic of the long bit.
I don't understand the Caleb Hull tweet. AOC watches an overweight person play tennis? Okaaayyy...
I remember that Ernie Kovacs special on PBS. The promos kept talking up how hilarious and ground-breaking it was. I watched with great expectation; I don't think I laughed even once.
In the '90s I had a vague awareness that people named Donald Trump, Ivana Trump and Marla Maples all existed and were connected, but I had no knowledge of nor interest in exactly how.
"AOC watches an overweight person play tennis?", that's the Donald in an unflattering picture. Sometimes you gotta push that tush, which he did against a fabric that is kinda thin and revealing. Visible panty-line is just as embarrassing on men as it is on women.
Ernie Kovacs also did Percy Dovetonsils, the poet. He was a genius in a time when laughter and talent were honored -- fun times -- I was a teenager then, but knew good stuff when I saw it.
I don't understand the people who support killing the offspring of child rapists but think executing child rapists is cruel and unusual punishment. Seems more appropriate to kill the criminal than the unborn child.
The only thing that would have made for a funnier Friday Grab bag would have been a piece on our representatives to the French ambassador for the Bastille Day celebrations. Keep up the good work!
Wow. Good point. Though I love, "her ancestors were the masters of the ambush".

Ah, I didn't recognize DJT. Also, just yesterday somebody called AOC their "favorite big-a$$ Latina," so I guess it connects to that. Thanks.
Happy Friday!

Kovacs would almost certainly be #cancelled for doing Percy Dovetonsils today!
Indeed yes! He'd probably be cancelled for most of his hilarity.
"She wants to force the Supreme Court to… do what they literally just did."
A Do-Nothing Congress is like a Do-Nothing Rapist.
So this one's a win for We the Little People *fist bumps all 'round*
