"some other Republicans want to tank that bill because it doesn't give enough money to Raytheon"

Show me the man who doesn't want to slow down all spending and I'll show you the man who's net worth is impossible on a $175k/year salary and son has a sweet sinecure. TL;DR - he's corrupt as hell.

If they're not passing bills then the trough spigot is turned off.

At least that, for now.

They used to also be for fiscal sanity, individual freedoms, and assertively avoiding military conflict (think about what "conservative means; neoCONs are not conservative) but they're having a tough time getting back to those principles so I don't hold out much hope.

They were lured in at first, then threatened: "Zuck, you old patriot, you. Love America - am I right? Those windsailing pics of you are amazing. So, hey - that' sure is a nice business you have there. It would be a shame if something happened to it."

But even, Yoel Roth at Twitter had to respond with pushback when he thought they couldn't justify censorship under the existing rules.

So why do they seek to be "educated" when they already know everything?

Ooohh! Please see what happened to the Hamline adjunct professor who got fired. Safe space beats learning once again.

On the upside, looks like they might not be able to confer degrees until they clean that mess up.

What makes you think any (well, perhaps a few) are seeking an education? My decades of experience, especially the last decade, lead me to believe they're merely seeking a magic certificate with the least amount of effort possible. True education is generally hard work on both sides of the desk.

Living in Texas, where the state legislature has moderate GOP members make deals with the Dem caucus for leadership votes and agenda setting, I was very worried about the Speaker outcome. This is possibly the best result, we'll see if the concessions Chip Roy negotiated will stick.

Me too but I thought some of those items were pretty good.

I love the 72 hours to read a bill provision. That's not for the "We have to pass it to see what's in it" legislators . That's for We the Little People to review and have time to blow up the really bad ideas on the newly Free Speechified Twitter. Same for amendments on the floor and getting bills to the floor without committees. I like that a lot of this will have to be discussed in the open. Might be time to go long on Big C-Span.

THEM: "These reforms will prevent Congress from doing Congressional business."

PI: "You say that like it's a bad thing."

Well if Tucker Carlson needs anymore living proof that vaccines don’t work, here I am!

I had two plus two boosters and have been sick with Covid since Christmas. Testing negative and still sick as a dog. Doc says I was lucky enough to get the flu on top of the plague.

I got the vaccines because I am a diabetic and it was easier to get the poke than to listen to everyone yell at me that I was going to die if I didn’t. The 2nd booster almost did the job. I was knocked off my feet for three days and was so sick even my husband said That’s Enough.

Censorship is Deadly.

I’ve never watched Carlson but I’d defend his right to state his opinion before I’d vote for any democrat after this hoax.

Maybe if they weren't all hell-bent on vaccinating everyone regardless of risk of contracting COVID, they might have had some time and resources to tailor treatment to those at most risk.

Good doctors say "We treat patients, not just the disease." Unfortunately, not enough of the Good Doctors are part of the teams that craft policy.

Sorry to say very few are treating disease or treating patients. Many are doing pocketbook, biopsies, and taking what the administrators need. They call them RVU’s. Your reimbursement is completely dependent on this stupid.

So, what does Laura Helmuth plan to do? Does she want to ban football in this nation? Is that it? Does she have any idea how popular football, both college and professional, is? Does she want a for-real riot? An actual insurrection, not an unauthorized tour? You ban football today, and there's a Civil War by noon.

But, for someone like Laura Helmuth, they never actually think of the consequences of their actions of their rhetoric. It's all theoretical to them. Our intellectual class is, quite literally, a bunch of morons, galoots, imbecils and simpletons.

(I can't say the "Re***d word. I don't want to get cancelled.)

"Ah, “inherited.” Haven’t heard that one from the White House since Obama’s first term. It’s always the previous guy’s fault." Another hallmark of the Obama era was how he was always reading in the morning paper about the terrible things his administration was doing! He was shocked like everyone else that the FBI and CIA was spying on journalists, that the IRS was targeting conservatives, etc. Shocked!

I had been wondering about all the hoopla surrounding the Speaker election. Given the press coverage, I wondered about these "bomb throwers". Then I got my head out of the supposedly mainstream press. David Harsanyi wrote it was a "management issue" basically. Then, there's this piece from The Federalist by Emily Jashinsky: https://thefederalist.com/2023/01/09/in-mccarthy-negotiations-gop-landed-on-most-significant-win-for-conservatives-in-a-decade/

No more Omnibus monstrosities? 72 hours to actually read the freaking bills?! I'm in.

The Deep State trying to censor Tucker?! I'm no longer surprised. I am, however, still angry.

As for the NFL "expert," with McDermott and Taylor, Black coaches weren't "disproportionately affected," so there's that. Sweet Lord...

As for the vaccines, with the latest variant, we simply have to stop or there will be a variant that causes great illness or death. We CAN'T "outsmart the mutations. And we don't need "Dr." Jill to tell us otherwise. Tucker was right. I no longer refer to them as vaccines, even though the CDC tried to redefine the term.

OK. NOW it feels like Monday.
