I just saw a couple of news items that seem to be related.
Item #1: Even the New York Times is now admitting that the COVID-19 pandemic was caused by a lab leak, and the people we trusted to tell us the truth lied to us.

We have since learned, however, that to promote the appearance of consensus, some officials and scientists hid or understated crucial facts, misled at least one reporter, orchestrated campaigns of supposedly independent voices and even compared notes about how to hide their communications in order to keep the public from hearing the whole story.
Well, ya don’t say!
Tufekci doesn’t admit that she’s among the liars, but I guess it’s a start.
Lying is a very effective short-term solution to most political problems, which is why politicians and their enablers have come to rely on it. “Deny, deny, deny” is their first rule. Sweep the truth under the rug until everybody moves on, and then insist it’s old news.
