On Monday, this was my first question about the attack on Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul:
The Pelosis are worth somewhere north of $100 million. Nancy Pelosi is the speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and second in the line of presidential succession. You’re telling me her husband Paul was alone in a house with no security or surveillance cameras? This lunatic David DePape just walked right up to the house and broke in?
As it turns out, that’s exactly what happened.
Because the Capitol Police screwed up.
No one was watching. They were supposed to be, but they weren’t.
It’s news to me that at least one of Nancy Pelosi’s houses is under surveillance from across the country. And it’s even bigger news that it didn’t do $#!+. The Capitol Police just let somebody walk right in and attack Paul Pelosi. They didn’t even know anything was wrong until the local cops had already showed up. Nobody raised an alarm until it was already too late.
Remind you of anything?
So why the hell are we paying Capitol Police officers to watch those monitors? What good is a surveillance system that can observe a house from 3,000 miles away if nobody’s paying any attention to it?
Who’s getting fired for this? Has the chief of the Capitol Police handed in his resignation yet? If not, why not?
If you’re happy about this astonishing dereliction of duty by the Capitol Police because it’s a chance to bash Republicans, you’re part of the problem. “Take that, you conspiracy nuts. The truth is as simple as... er... the utter failure of the federal officers who swore to protect our leaders.”
You might be a liberal if you excuse the Capitol Police for abdicating their responsibility, so you can yell at a Republican for saying something stupid about it.
David DePape is not a male prostitute or Grindr date gone wrong, as some on the right are saying. Nor is he some sort of MAGA agent who proves the Republican Party should be dissolved, as some on the left are saying. (Including Joe Biden and Barack Obama.) No, DePape is a drugged-out maniac who should have been stopped before he hurt anybody.
The people who let it happen must answer for their failure.
