Sonia Sotomayor's Superstitions Are Now Law, Apparently
The wise Latina sure doesn't know much about COVID-19
A couple of weeks ago, Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor said a bunch of stuff about COVID-19 that did not bear any relation to reality. She had no idea what she was talking about, to the point where even CNN felt obliged to do a fact-check.
For one thing, Sotomayor said:
“We have over 100,000 children, which we’ve never had before, in serious condition, and many on ventilators.”
The number of children hospitalized for COVID-19 in the United States is closer to 5,000. Which still isn’t good, especially if you’re one of those kids. But where the hell did Sotomayor get that 100,000 number? Why did she feel confident enough in her absolutely incorrect belief to say it aloud in open court? Should a Supreme Court justice really sound like your Aunt Edna who’s seen one too many memes?
As if that wasn’t embarrassing enough, Sotomayor has now humiliated herself even further:
Nina Totenberg, National Public Radio:
It was pretty jarring earlier this month when the justices of the U.S. Supreme Court took the bench for the first time since the omicron surge over the holidays. All were now wearing masks. All, that is, except Justice Neil Gorsuch…
Sotomayor has diabetes, a condition that puts her at high risk for serious illness, or even death, from COVID-19…
…Sotomayor did not feel safe in close proximity to people who were unmasked. Chief Justice John Roberts, understanding that, in some form asked the other justices to mask up.
They all did. Except Gorsuch, who, as it happens, sits next to Sotomayor on the bench.
OMG! Gorsuch is trying to kill Sotomayor! We need to kick him off the Supreme Court! Lock him up! Etc., etc.
But seriously, folks. Why is Sotomayor parroting anti-vax misinformation? Gorsuch is vaccinated, as are all the other justices. Sotomayor is telling us she doesn’t believe the vaccine works.
Demanding that everyone wear masks is pure superstition. She may as well tell Gorsuch to throw salt over his shoulder and carry a rabbit’s foot to ward off the plague.
