Yesterday I asked how many people have died of the Omicron variant. At that point the answer was zero. Today, the answer is… one?
That’s what British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is claiming, anyway:
“Omicron is producing hospitalizations and sadly at least one patient has now been confirmed to have died with Omicron. I think the idea that this is somehow a milder version of the virus, I think that’s something we need to set on one side and just recognize the sheer pace at which it accelerates through the population.”
Okay, I have a few questions:
Who was this person? Did he or she have a name?
Johnson says the patient has died with Omicron, not of or from Omicron. Was Omicron the cause of death?
If the answer to #2 is no, then… what’s the problem?
If somebody falls off a roof and breaks his neck while he’s got the Omicron variant in his body, that does not mean he died of Omicron. That’s not the cause of death.
