We all know the job of the White House press secretary is to lie to the press, and therefore to all of us. But shouldn’t she be better at it than this?

Doocy: "How does raising taxes on corporations lower the cost of gas, the cost of a used car, the cost of food, for everyday Americans?" Jean-Pierre: "We encourage those who have done very well, especially those who care about climate change, to support a fairer tax code."

Karine Jean-Pierre is reading that gibberish off a piece of paper, and doing so badly. She doesn’t answer the question she was asked, which is nothing new. But the performance also doesn’t look good on camera, which is the whole job. You’re supposed to make it look like your administration has got it together, even though we all know it’s a disaster.

Jen Psaki is a damn liar, but at least she made an attempt to seem professional about it. She didn’t robotically read off paragraphs of text from her notes. She actually looked her questioner in the eye as she lied her ass off. She promised to “circle back” on whatever she didn’t want to answer. It was always more of a half-circle, because she never closed it. But at least she didn’t come off like… whatever that was supposed to be.

Psaki wasn’t an amateur, in other words. But I guess this is what happens in an administration that’s governed by identity politics. “Making history” is more important than doing the actual job.

It used to be misogynist to criticize the White House press secretary — although somehow that rule didn’t apply to Kayleigh McEnany or Stephanie Grisham or Sarah Sanders — but we’ve entered a bold new era. Now, criticizing the White House press secretary is misogynist and racist!

The reporter’s name is Simon Abeta:

Now that’s what you call great optics.

A black man got too uppity with a white lady, and now his overseers are beating him down. Talk about Jim Crow! But punishing him isn’t racist, because he’s pestering a Democratic administration.

#Resistance is now the worst thing you can do. At least for the next 594 days.
