How Does Erasing Racism from History Stop Racism?

HINT: It doesn't

I’ve never been smart enough to be a liberal, so I don’t understand how it helps anybody to impose 21st Century standards of diversity, equity, and inclusion on the past.

You may have seen the brouhaha over Google’s new Gemini artificial intelligence program, which outright refuses to create images of white people, even in a historical context that would necessarily include them.

My pal Frank Fleming got the ball rolling when he asked Gemini to do this:

That’s weird, right? I mean, theoretically there could be a black pope or an Indian pope or a female pope. But it hasn’t happened yet. That isn’t what any pope who has ever lived looks like.

So why does an AI think it is?

Frank got curious, so he tried various tricks to make the AI generate an image of a white person:

Nope, nope, and nope. Nothing worked.

His efforts went viral, and a bunch of other people tried as well. But no matter how you ask it to depict white people throughout history, Gemini won’t go for it. As far as the AI is concerned, white folks simply are not a thing.

Now, a lot of humans think that would be great. They’re racists, so they’re fine with erasing white people from the past, present, and future.

Nonetheless, as our society becomes more and more reliant on these freaky-ass algorithms, it seems like a bit of a glitch to pretend 70% of the population of the United States simply doesn’t exist.

The AI is only as good as its programmers, and Gemini is a perfect reflection of its creators’ biases. These guys dream of a world without those evil crackers — except for their own wonderful selves, of course — and this is the product of all their hard work.

This is only the latest example, of course. We’ve been seeing it in entertainment for years. There’s nothing wrong with diversity in principle, and the “controversy” over things like black Stormtroopers in Star Wars and black Norse gods in Marvel movies was completely overblown.

But then the libs went totally nuts. Cleopatra is suddenly a black woman. Middle Earth has been integrated so thoroughly, even Samantha Bee can’t stop it. Sir Isaac Newton has been magically transformed into an Indian fellow.

An entire generation is being taught that human history is a Benetton ad.

Which is counterproductive, considering these same libs won’t shut up about all the bad things white folks have done throughout history, and how every white person alive today is complicit. Isn’t turning George Washington into a black guy letting whitey off the hook?

I’ll ask again: How does erasing racism from history stop racism?

But the great thing about being a leftist is that you don’t need to think about anything.

Google is now in full retreat. Gemini no longer generates images of any human beings whatsoever, and the engineer in charge of the project has deleted his social media and isn’t talking to reporters.

What a stunning success for the smartest guys in the world!

You don’t need to use Google, by the way. These guys think they can make a bunch of money off you and use it to tell you how the world should work, but you don’t need to put up with it. There’s DuckDuckGo, there’s Brave’s search engine, there’s Bing. Or you could even, y’know, pick up a book. You’ve got options.

Historically, the Gemini sign has two faces. So it only makes sense that this new Gemini has revealed Google’s other face so clearly.
