It’s Friday, I’m tired, you’re tired, let’s not make a whole big deal out of it. Here, listen to some new music I like this week.
Cory Wong feat. Louis Cole, “The Grid Generation”
That’s a peppy little tune, isn’t it? I don’t know much about modern jazz-rock, but apparently those two guys are big names. Reminds me of Steely Dan, which is okay in my book.
Cypress Hill, “Insane in the Brain (Statik Selektah Remix)”
Now that’s a vibe shift. Did you know the original song was released 30 years ago? That’s older than any of the samples were when they recorded it. I’m sure there’s something deep and meaningful I could say about the passage of time, but mostly it just bums me out.
Yard Act, “The Trench Coat Museum”
That might be the longest music video that didn’t bore the piss out of me. Kind of sounds like a cross between Cake and Can. Can Cake? Cake Can?
Sap, “Trashman”
Yes, these kids are blatantly ripping off Nirvana. No, I do not care.
C.O.F.F.I.N., “Give Me a Bite”
Screaming Aussie dirtbags with guitars. Now that’s what I like. The acronym stands for Children of Finland Fighting in Norway. I have no idea what that means, if it’s supposed to mean anything at all, but I like it. They’re not exactly reinventing the wheel, but I like loud music made with actual instruments and I’m glad it hasn’t died out yet.
That’s all I’ve got for you today.
I’m still writing down words for people to say on TV, and sometimes it even gets a laugh. The best is when I write a joke about somebody who’s sitting right there, and they think it’s funny. That sort of immediate, involuntary response is new to me, and it almost makes up for the jokes I think are good that nobody else gets.
Up early to watch the Tour de France, and listening to your selections as I watch. I'm on the hunt for new music, and I added about 100 new songs this last week. Now, I know my taste in music trends toward the heavy, guitar oriented side of The Spectrum, but here's who I found that I really like: ASkySoBlack, Trauma Ray, Superheavy, Soul Blind, Narrow Head. They may not all be new, but they're new to me and that's what matters.
I don't watch Gutfeld because I've got other things going on at that time, but I've assumed that the jokes in "Week Sauce" are the ones that don't make it on the air. If that's the case, the ones that do make it on the air must be pretty funny.
