Okay, let’s start with the good news. Both teams have just taken some tough losses, and there’s plenty of gloating material to go around. Let the healing begin!
Three deeply annoying gubernatorial candidates with very bad ideas lost last night: Charlie Crist in Florida, Beto O’Rourke in Texas, and Stacey Abrams in Georgia. It would’ve been bad for those states if they had won, so congratulations to those voters. Plus, a lot of journos, celebrities, and other Democrats are extremely disappointed about those losses this morning. They built up those candidates and pretended they were winners, and now they’ve all been humiliated. So that’s not entirely unsatisfying.
I think most people assumed Crist would lose, but nobody expected it to be this embarrassing. Pretty good, man!
In a surprising move, Abrams has already conceded:
Which doesn’t really make up for the 2018 race she still insists she won. But hey, she’s taking baby steps. BTW, is this the first time an incumbent governor has lost to another incumbent governor?
Meanwhile, in Texas: Just two more elections and Beto gets a free Subway sandwich.
