Let’s say you’re a Democrat.
Wait, come back! I mean no insult, dear reader. I’m not accusing you of anything so vile. This is only for the purposes of argument, I assure you.
But let’s say you’re a Democrat, and your state nominates a Senate candidate who recently had a near-death health issue. Let’s call it a stroke. A major, debilitating stroke.
The candidate and his staff insist he’s fine. No problem. He’s having a little trouble speaking, but he’ll be right as rain before you know it. He doesn’t need to rest and recuperate after his brain exploded.
And if anybody doubts that, they’re branded “ableist.”
At this point, you’re all-in. In order to enact your stupid, ruinous policies, your party needs the Senate vote of a man who is incapable of serving. You’ve made your choice and you gotta stick with it.
So, how do you protect your emotional and political investment?
