Until a few years ago, I had never heard the word “neurodivergent.” Then, one day, it was everywhere. Instantly, it became the appropriate word to use whenever someone was behaving oddly.
“He’s kinda weird, but go easy, he’s neurodivergent.”
“I can’t come into the office today, I’m neurodivergent.”
“Please stop mocking my TikTok videos where I sit in my 2012 Honda Civic and scream into the camera about politics. I’m neurodivergent, you f***ing fascist!”
Much like “transgender” and “brat,” it’s one of those words that just pops up out of nowhere. And we’re all supposed to act like it makes sense, or we’ll be cast out of the tribe.
But now, as suddenly as it appeared, neurodivergence is no longer an excuse. At least if the subject is Elon Musk.
As you may have heard, Musk endorsed Donald Trump and then Trump was elected president again. Oh, and Musk bought Twitter and gave it a new name I will not use. Now he’s the left’s #1 enemy, so it’s okay to mock him for being different than other people.
Last weekend, SNL brought back Dana Carvey to impersonate Musk — nobody else in the building could do it, apparently — and Musk didn’t like it.
