She's part of The Swamp that Trump talked about. She's a semi-permanent member of the Clerisy class.

Malleable as long as she continues to get invited to all the right cocktail parties. Cha-ching.

What I find amusing is how easy it is to spot the Swamp Creatures when they're lying. Maybe it's because the lie so much to each other that they forget how normal humans act. And it's not just content. I remember the Thomas SCOTUS appointment hearings. As it happened, I was renting a big house and subletting to other other grad students in my department. A lot of us were older than average. One was a professor from Southern U in Nawlins. Black of course. We bonded quickly for a lot of reasons.

Anyway, we we watching the hearings and he invited a couple of Black friends who worked in the office where his grad assistantship put him. So we were all watching when Anita Hill did her thing. I kept my mouth shut. At the end of that day's hearings, I said "So?" or something like that. Two adult Black males and one adult Black female agreed. "She's lying." They had no doubt.

At the end, when Thomas was talking about a "high-tech lynching" the two Black guys were there, and they were going, "Whew! He's righteous mad. Good thing this isn't a real street fight. His razor would be bleeding guys all over the place."

I'd say Thomas had the last laugh.

Honestly, I know rather a lot of MAGA-heads (related to more than a few) and as a group they are far from being haters. They tend to resent how they're seen, and treated, by coastal elites, but they don't seem, to me, to hate them. They do, however appear to be rather grimly preparing to do a dirty job. But for so many that's their life -- doing dirty jobs. And I'll bet most of them would like Jim Treacher if they met him in person.

This does raise an interesting point: Why can't we can't we choose our preferred policies a la carte?

One should be allowed to be Pro-2A and Pro-Choice. Or support strict immigration policies but still see value in a social safety net. Drill, Baby, Drill and also Environmental Stewardship.

You want diversity? That's what diversity really looks like. Content of Character not Color of Team Jersey.

The Kamala video reminds me of what an unserious time we live in. Here, she's going out of her way to make an audio description for a subset of the blind audience that "may" be playing this content... it's a lot of effort for some dubious payoff. Meanwhile, the country has real problems, and her role in all that just seems to be to dismiss and cackle at it. No wonder China feels like they can threaten the Speaker of the House for their trips to Taiwan, or Russia thinks it can do whatever. Just waiting for the return of ISIS and the set will be complete.

Curious question, one in all sincerity: if you are blind, have been since birth, what is blue? How is it different from green or yellow, and how would you know and what difference would that make?

It was not solely for the blind, but the vision-impaired. The pronoun thing though, is completely uncalled for.

Maybe she should have described the feel of the fabric she was wearing. Where I grew up, people like her were referred to as 'turnip heads'. It's on top of her neck, but it might as well be a turnip for all of what use it is.

Some of us MAGA-heads love you despite your blind spot.

Not about to subscribe to The Telegraph for one article, but apparently they found a plesiosaur skeleton in a freshwater environment. So? Sharks swim up the Mississippi and the St. Lawrence from time to time. Doesn't mean it was a thing.

This is a bugaboo of mine, but there's really no such thing as "animal rights." Animals do not have self-consciousness, empathy or theory of mind -- certainly nowhere near that found in humans, and necessary to act responsibly, which is requisite for exercising rights. Does a wildebeest have a right to life? Somebody tell the lion. Does the lion have a right to feed her kits? Somebody tell the wildebeest.

Animals are unable to conceptualize the rights of others, and thus cannot have any rights themselves. Rather, it is *humans* who have a responsibility to treat all of nature in a thoughtful, respectful, responsible -- dare I say sustainable? -- manner. Abusing animals is a sign of moral depravation.

Treating animals respectfully *looks* like you are respecting their "rights," and so that has become the shorthand. But it takes the focus off of us, and our moral duty to act responsibly.

End of sermon.

I didn't vote for Trump, but I grew up in an area full of Deplorables who clung to their guns and their Bibles. Most of them were yellow dog Democrats. Then, in 2016, they effortlessly swung to Trump like a precision drill team. Some called themselves Trump Democrats. Now they call themselves Republicans.

I 'felt' that coming, and indeed predicted it. I also called Michigan (we lived there then) for Trump in March 2016, not election night. Why? Same vibe, even among my Detroit Metro students. White, upper-middle class 'privileged' students were uniformly vocally anti-Trump and pro-Hillary. BIPOCs (I actually find that term useful in the proper context) and the 'non-privileged' Whites (they do exist) were quiet and resentful. They mostly voted Trump I suspect or didn't vote. The only Hillary supporters other than the first group were young Black women, who may not have voted. One of the older (mid-30s) undergrads in one of my classes summed it up as. "Black women don't 'like' Hillary. She phony. They may vote for her, but they don't like her."

Especially anti-MAGAs miss that Trump is a result, not a cause. Hell, he may miss that.

Your Substack is a daily reminder that crooks are in charge. And not the happy, charming crooks like Slippin' Jimmy. But the cruel, grasping ones that propped up Sleepy Joe for a campaign season, lied, perjured, and cheated me to keep a lesser crook from power.

And I'm supposed to thank you for this?

But I really enjoy the BCS commentary. I'd pay (not much, but, hey!) for a BCS commentary track from you when the Blu-Ray is released!

Watching that Reagan clip really brought back memories. Some good, some bad. I remember how quick-witted Reagan was at his best (compare to current seat-warmer who couldn't fire off a clip like that with 2 weeks preparation). And I remember how he was mocked for his advancing age.

It reminded me that Reagan wrote many or most of his own speeches, Brandon can barely read coherently the words others have written, and that he may not understand.

Two things that I think Reagan and Trump (I never voted for him, either) shared that Biden doesn't: 1) A vision of what America can be at its best, and 2) an honest appreciation for working people and those at the bottom of the economic heap. It seems odd that Trump has the second and Amtrak Joe doesn't, but life is a funny thing.
